Happy Christmas

It may be a happy Christmas after all, I now have a working application that zooms in and out and does not reset to its original settings, so the user can finally be in control. We had to change the zoom level variable and change the get latlang function that calls the current location as this was re-setting the application.

Zoom level problem

Myself and Jay looked at the zoom level problem today and we may have made some progress, we can now move zoom levels up and down but it is still snapping back to its original level again. We think there is a piece of code that is doing this but have not yet been able to find it.

Google Maps is irritating me

This Google Maps and zoom levels thing is irritating me, it feels like I am getting nowhere and I do not want a repeat of last year, where I spent too long on one particular part of the application but if I don’t get this working then the whole application will fail.

Custom Zoom

I have added custom zoom controls to the application but they can only change between 2 levels because each button sets the zoom at a specific number, Google’s zoom levels range between 0 and 20.

Happy times

I have Google Maps working again so its happy times, see below:

I have been looking at the Google Maps API to try and add controls to my application, I have managed to add the standard controls to change the map type and zoom level but the buttons are too small and the map changes back to its original settings almost straight away. I will continue to investigate this problem but I am beginning to suspect that I will need to create custom controls, see application with Google default controls below:

No progress but new baby!

For the past couple of weeks there has been no progress but this was not unexpected. I spent 5 days at my partner’s bedside as she was being induced for birth of our child and the next week was spent snowed in, adjusting to life with a new baby son and a 5 year old who was very bored, as his school had been closed due to the bad weather.
